Norway's data protection authority, Datatilsynet, has advised companies to seek alternatives to using Google Analytics in the wake of a recent decision from the Austrian Data Protection Authority. Datatilsynet made its recommendation while noting it had two ongoing investigations into complaints regarding potential EU General Data Protection Regulation violations stemming from the use of Google Analytics. The regulator said the European Data Protection Board is working on the matter "in a separate working group," but noted other web tools similar to Google Analytics "send much more data" to the U.S.

CORRECTION: A previous version of this brief and its headline incorrectly characterized the Norwegian DPA's recommendation as a final ruling. The DPA has yet to render an official decision on the matter at hand.
