Norway’s data protection authority, Datatilsynet, announced it conducted an inspection of the Svalbard governor’s office in the spring. The inspection was related to the governor’s office processing personal data for visa applications and use of the visa information system. During the inquiry, “deviations related to processing responsibility and internal control” were discovered. As a result, Datatilsynet gave the governor’s office until 31 Jan. 2023 to “clarify and document the division of responsibilities between the governor and the Directorate of Immigration for the processing of personal data in the visa information system.”
