Approximately 3,000 Northwest Territories' citizens receiving welfare between 2006-14 had their personal information stolen following a recent break-in at the Department of Education, Culture and Employment headquarters in Yellowknife, CBC News reports. Among the items stolen were hard drives with income assistance reports from that timeframe, which contained personally identifiable information. The Northwest Territories Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police opened an investigation into the break-in.
