Nigerian Data Protection Bureau National Commissioner Vincent Olatunji called on the National Identity Management Commission to implement strong data protection and privacy safeguards within the country’s Digital ID system, Punch reports. With the National Identification Number at 80 million, Olatunji said the commission is the “highest data controller in the country” and should serve as a model for others. “There is nothing you would want to do in the digital economy without proper identity and you can’t achieve that without adequate privacy and protection of data,” he said.
