Proposed legislation would establish a commission tasked with drafting recommendations for Congress to update health information privacy laws, Healthcare IT News reports. U.S. Sens. Tammy Baldwin, D-Wis., and Bill Cassidy, R-La., introduced the Health Data Use and Privacy Commission Act with the support of industry representatives including EPIC, IBM, athenahealth and Teladoc Health. “HIPAA must be updated for the modern day. This legislation starts this process on a pathway to make sure it is done right,” Cassidy said.
