A biometric cellphone registry faces a legal hurdle after a provisional measure by a judge in Mexico, Reuters reports. Second District Judge Juan Pablo Gomez Fierro blocked part of the Federal Telecommunications and Broadcasting Law that would require cellphone users to submit data to telecom providers for the registry. The Federal Telecommunications Institute would manage the registry, which would be available to law enforcement. The judge said the registry does not “positively influence” public security activities.
