State officials in Iowa have launched a pilot project for digital driver’s licenses, Government Technology reports. Iowa Department of Transportation’s Motor Vehicle Division Director Melissa Gillett said the mobile IDs are expected to be available for download on Apple and Android devices “around the summer of 2022.” Testing will occur through December, with plans to enlist 100 DOT employees by spring. Gillett said the digital ID would be optional.
