TechCrunch reports Indian Parliament pulled the draft Data Protection Bill from consideration. Minister of Railways, Communications and Electronics and Information Technology in Government Ashwini Vaishnaw said the Joint Parliamentary Committee's work on the bill showed "a comprehensive legal framework is being worked upon" and Parliament plans to draft fresh legislation that "fits into the comprehensive legal framework." Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar said the JPC's work in recent years "identified many issues that were relevant but beyond the scope of a modern digital privacy law."
