The U.K. Information Commissioner's Office fined five companies a combined 405,000 GBP over violations stemming from more than 750,000 targeted marketing calls. The ICO's probe revealed violators had purchased marketing data lists from third parties, using personal details to purposefully target people age 60 and up, homeowners and those with landline numbers. Information Commissioner John Edwards said companies making similar "predatory marketing calls" can "expect a strong response from my office."
