The Hellenic Data Protection Authority fined Clearview AI 20 million euros for EU General Data Protection Regulation violations, and banned the facial recognition company from collecting and processing Greeks' personal data, TechCrunch reports. Clearview AI was also ordered to delete any data already collected. The decision originates from a May 2021 complaint by human rights advocacy group Homo Digitalis, which said the fine sends a “strong signal against intrusive business models of companies that seek to make money through the illegal processing of personal data.”
