The New Yorker reports on governments’ use of the NSO Group’s Pegasus software, which has been used to target politicians, activists, journalists and others around the world. Investigations have found evidence the software is used in 45 countries and has been purchased by law enforcement agencies in the United States and Europe. Meanwhile, large technology companies and individuals who have been hacked by the software are filing lawsuits. CEO Shalev Hulio said he never imagined the company would “be so controversial.”
