Google disclosed how many geofence warrants it gets from U.S. law enforcement, TechCrunch reports. The company offered its archive of requests dating back to 2018, which showed a steep rise in requests from 982 in 2018 to 11,554 in 2020. The warrants help obtain Google's location data, which can be used to identify people of interest in criminal investigations. Google spokesperson Alex Krasov said the company "developed a process specifically for these requests that is designed to honor our legal obligations while narrowing the scope of data disclosed."
