Privacy authorities from the G-7 countries recently held a two-day summit focused on streamlining international data flows between member nations, The Wall Street Journal reports. The meeting resulted in commitments to "create options for businesses to choose cross-border transfer tools, suitable for their business needs" while also highlighting the need for jurisdictional legislation that assures personal data is accessed only when "strictly necessary" for national security purposes. The regulators also discussed anonymization and deidentification tactics along with increased cooperation between privacy and competition authorities.
