U.S. Federal Trade Commission staff is seeking public input as it updates guidance for businesses on preventing deception in digital advertising and marketing. The FTC said some companies are inaccurately citing the guidance, first published in March 2013, to justify misleading practices, like dark patterns. Bureau of Consumer Protection Director Samuel Levine said the FTC is updating the guidance “to make clear that online tricks and traps will not be tolerated.” Public comment will be open through Aug. 2.
