Eric Leandri, the co-founder of French search engine Qwant, now runs a startup specializing in cybersurveillance, Politico reports. The search engine nearly went bankrupt before receiving an 8 million euro loan from Chinese telecommunications company Huawei in 2021. Leandri left in 2020 to start Altrnativ, which has compiled data on “the critics, rivals and employees of some of France's biggest brands,” per internal documents reviewed by Politico.
