The Florida House Commerce Committee voted unanimously to advance House Bill 9, an act concerning consumer data privacy, out of committee with favorable recommendation. The amended bill offered by state Rep. Fiona McFarland, R-Fla., and adopted by committee includes a limited private right of action, attorney general enforcement, a 45-day cure period, opt-out consent provisions for adults and opt-in consent for minors under 18. The House Judiciary Committee will consider the bill next. Editor's note: IAPP's Joe Duball covered Florida's shortcomings on comprehensive privacy legislation during the 2021 legislative session.
