A federal judge rejected Amazon’s attempt to stave off discovery in a lawsuit alleging it violated the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act, MediaPost reports. The class-action lawsuit was filed by Illinois resident Jacinda Dorian, who claimed online learning platform ProctorU used Rekognition, a facial recognition technology, to verify students’ identities. Dorian alleged she was required to show her face and ID on her computer’s camera to use ProctorU’s software to take tests. She claimed she never gave consent to Amazon’s collection of her facial images, a potential violation of BIPA.
