Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., the current committee chair, to pass comprehensive federal privacy legislation. The reporting details issues with hardline policy proposals, and an alleged lack of compromise within the committee and with members of the U.S. House. Cantwell and the committee are currently considering the bipartisan, bicameral American Privacy Rights Act.
