CoinDesk reports the European Parliament passed a proposal to ban anonymous cryptocurrency transactions, despite criticism that the move would invade privacy. The proposal extends anti-money laundering requirements applying to payments of more than 1,000 euros. Opponents said privacy violations could face legal challenges. European People’s Party spokesperson Markus Ferber said, “With this approach of regulating new technologies, the European Union will fall further behind other, more open-minded jurisdictions.”
