Global News reports the Edmonton Police Service began accessing facial recognition software NeoFace Reveal at the start of 2022 to help identify suspects in criminal investigations. The EPS’ Information Technology Division’s Warren Driechel said the service, which works with Calgary and Edmonton police mugshot databases, is accessible by select trained technicians and EPS has “ensured the proper safeguards, policies and protections align with legislation.” A privacy impact assessment was submitted to the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta and is under review.
