In a recent report, the Dutch data protection authority, Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, found data breaches due to cyberattacks almost doubled in 2021 over the previous year. The AP said it received almost 25,000 data breach reports in 2021, 9% of which were caused by cyberattacks — up from 5% the previous year. AP Chairman Aleid Wolfsen said information technology suppliers are increasingly targeted, adding, “these suppliers have a lot of personal data from multiple organizations in one place.”
