The App Drivers & Couriers Union and Worker Info Exchange said misidentifications by Uber’s Real-Time ID Check, which uses facial recognition to identify drivers, has resulted in drivers losing their jobs and licenses, TechCrunch reports. The groups have called for Microsoft to suspend Uber’s license for use of its technology, citing accuracy concerns and high instances of misidentification of people of color. Uber said its Real-Time ID Check is “fair and important for the safety of our platform.”
