The U.S. Department of Defense plans to hire a chief digital and artificial intelligence officer who will have oversight over much of the government's data-focused work beginning Feb. 1, Nextgov reports. A senior DOD official said the aim of the restructure represents a shift to "greater integration and unity of mission" while working "faster and farther in the face of digital and AI innovation." The DOD’s Joint AI Center, the Office of the Chief Data Officer and Defense Digital Service would fall under the new official's supervision.
