Ahead of European Parliament’s anticipated vote on the Digital Services Act next week, a group of digital rights organizations and business leaders are pushing to ban targeted advertising online, Politico reports. In a letter to lawmakers, the group calls for banning targeted ads using people’s search histories, social media activity and online purchases. Instead, they propose enabling platforms to use freely given information and data gleaned through algorithms for targeted advertising.
