A Consumer Reports review of the privacy and security policies of 16 prominent virtual private networks found some lack transparency and security practices, Gizmodo reports. The report cites research by the University of Michigan that “malicious and deceptive behaviors by VPN providers such as traffic interception and manipulation are not widespread but are not nonexistent,” while the Consumer Reports review found “little evidence” of VPNs “manipulating users’ networking traffic.” Consumer Reports highlighted four VPN providers for their privacy and security practices.
