Reuters reports 65 U.K. lawmakers asked police to stop using live facial recognition technology in public spaces. The call came after Minister of State for Crime, Policing and Fire Chris Philp said a new U.K. passport data system paired with biometric surveillance could be used regularly to identify criminal suspects. The technology was previously used at big public events, such as the coronation of King Charles III.
