Rules prohibiting algorithmic discrimination across China's industries come into force March 1, Wired reports. The Internet Information Service Algorithmic Recommendation Management Provisions cover a range of algorithmic activities, including a ban on companies using personal characteristics to offer consumers different product pricing while notifying and allowing user opt out of algorithm-based recommendations. The rules will cover the activities of ride hailing, ecommerce, online streaming and social media companies.
