China launched what is believed to be the first vaccine passport, a digital certificate showing an individual’s COVID-19 test results and vaccination status, for domestic travelers, Euractiv reports. The certificate, which includes an encrypted QR code enabling access to a traveler’s health information, is available to Chinese citizens through social media platform WeChat and is not yet mandatory. A Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson said it is being rolled out “to help promote world economic recovery and facilitate cross-border travel.”
