Bloomberg reports Big Tech companies, including Google, Meta and Apple, are lobbying for consideration of data access limitations if Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act is reauthorized by U.S. Congress. Current Section 702 provisions allow U.S. intelligence agencies to parse and collect personal data from individuals' online and mobile communications. "Reforms are needed to ensure dragnet surveillance programs operate within constitutional limits and safeguard American users’ rights, through appropriate transparency, oversight and accountability," Computer and Communications Industry Association President Matt Schruers said.
