Germany’s Federal Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information, the BfDI, published a report on the use of artificial intelligence in law enforcement and security which it states shows “a comprehensive, empirical and interdisciplinary inventory by the legislature is necessary.” Commissioner Ulrich Kelber said data protection supervisory authorities must be able to “comprehensively” control AI applications. “AI is being used without fundamental legal questions being answered,” he said, calling on lawmakers to “make the necessary decisions in a timely manner.”
