The European Consumer Organisation, the Bureau Européen des Unions de Consommateurs, submitted a privacy complaint to the European Commission regarding alleged children's privacy violations by TikTok. BEUC claims TikTok's processing of children's data is "misleading," adding the company "does not clearly inform its users ... about what personal data is collected, for what purpose and for what legal reason." In parallel with BEUC's complaint, consumer organizations in 15 countries have urged authorities to investigate the company.
