British Columbia’s Information and Privacy Commissioner Michael McEvoy announced an investigation into facial recognition use by the Liberal Party of Canada, the Vancouver Sun reports. The investigation follows concerns from the Canadian Civil Liberties Association about the party’s use of the technology to verify the identity of individuals eligible to nominate party candidates. The investigation will review whether the facial recognition use complies with British Columbia’s Personal Information Protection Act.
