The 74 reports on the use of student-monitoring program Gaggle over the course of six months in Minneapolis public schools. Data from 1,300 incident reports highlighted digital surveillance of students outside of class, including nights, weekends, holidays and over the summer, with a quarter of incidents taking place during school hours. The program accessed student assignments and personal files, including emails and chat messages. Future of Privacy Forum’s Director of Youth and Education Privacy Amelia Vance said such surveillance is “likely to undercut the trust of students.”
