Following the implementation of the EU General Data Protection Regulation nearly a year ago, European regulators are struggling to keep pace with data breach notifications, The Wall Street Journal reports. IAPP President and CEO J. Trevor Hughes, CIPP, said, “There’s been a real concern about the sheer volume of work that is arriving at the regulators’ doorsteps.” Zurich Insurance Group AG Global Head of Cyber Risk Lori Bailey expects that with time, there will be more predictability for how regulators will react and fine companies for incidents but noted, “we’re just not there yet.” Meanwhile, Insurance Europe released a position paper in response to the European Commission stocktaking exercise on the application of the GDPR.
