The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada issued an interpretation of sensitive information under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act. The OPC said health and financial data, ethnic and racial origins, political opinions, genetic and biometric data, sexual orientation, and religious/philosophical beliefs are among data considered sensitive, requiring strengthened protections. “PIPEDA requires that the safeguards organizations put in place to protect personal information be appropriate to the sensitivity of the information,” the OPC said in a statement.
