An amended lawsuit against Clearview AI claims the facial recognition company “developed their technology to invade the privacy of the American public for their own profit,” Law Street reports. The complaint also named AT&T and multiple retailers as co-defendants. The lawsuit claimed Clearview “covertly” scraped billions of facial images online and then used its artificial intelligence algorithms to collect biometric data. The plaintiffs claim Clearview never sought consent to harvest the biometric data, in violation of the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act and other state laws.
