  • The Joint Committee of Parliament reviewing the Personal Data Protection Bill received a sixth extension until the final week of the current winter session to submit its report, according to The Economic Times. The winter session ends 23 Dec. The 30-member panel adopted its final report last month after nearly two years of discussion. Opponents disagree with certain provisions within the bill, including granting the state and its agencies powers for use of personal data.
  • Former Supreme Court of India Justice B.N. Srikrishna criticized the current version of the Personal Data Protection Bill during an interview with Moneycontrol. Srikrishna, a drafter of the original PDPB framework in 2018, called the current bill a "hotchpotch law" that is "loaded in favour of the government."
