Italy's data protection authority, the Garante, fined facial recognition company Clearview AI 20 million euros for EU General Data Protection Regulation violations related to its facial recognition software and database, The News International reports. "The personal data held by the company, including biometric and geolocation data, are processed unlawfully," the Garante said in a statement. In addition to the fine, Clearview AI was ordered to delete all data collected on individuals in Italy and prohibited to continue collection and processing activities in the country.
