Mexico’s Federal Institute for Information Access and Data Protection (IFAI) has started proceedings that could impose sanctions on Google for an alleged breach of the nation’s data protection law, Reuters reports. The IFAI initiated the proceedings after Google Mexico did not agree to a take-down request from a Mexican citizen wishing to have personal data removed from the search engine. According to the report, Mexican law could fine an organization in breach of national data protection law up to $1.53 million.
