The Greek Parliament passed legislation to incorporate the EU General Data Protection Regulation into national law, Ekathimerini reports. The bill was approved by the New Democracy, Syriza and MeRA 25 political parties and the Movement for Change political alliance. The KKE communist party and Greek Solution political party opposed the legislation. “It is not just a fundamental obligation of the country towards the EU that has obviously created a huge issue for the country’s image; it is not just the proposals for the fines or the referral to the European Court; there is also a fact that we must finally understand, which is the need to have real protection of data privacy,” Justice Minister Costas Tsiaras said before the vote took place.
