Nearly 50,000 Facebook users in more than 100 countries may have been targeted by surveillance companies, The Washington Post reports. Facebook notified the users they may have been victims of hacking attempts by the companies working for government agencies or private clients. Facebook said it sent cease-and-desist letters to seven surveillance companies in four countries, removed 1,500 fake accounts and blocked malicious web addresses. A report by the company calls surveillance targeting “indiscriminate.”
