European Parliament announced the inaugural meeting of an inquiry committee dedicated to investigating the potential use of NSO Group's Pegasus spyware software on and by EU member states. The meeting featured committee assignments and testimony on the technical aspects and impacts of Pegasus and equivalent surveillance technologies. Dutch Member of European Parliament Jeroen Lenaers, the newly-elected committee chair, said spyware is a "huge problem for democracy and the rule of law" and the committee will devise "useful recommendations" from its investigation.
