Colorado Department of Motor Vehicles data shows local and state law enforcement agencies made 227 requests since July 2016 to use the department’s facial recognition technology in assisting with an investigation, The Denver Post reports. During that time, 94 requests were submitted by federal agencies. Documents show the DMV denied 22 of the 323 law enforcement requests made over the four years. Eighty-four Colorado law enforcement agencies also since 2016 had access to LexisNexis’ Lumen program, which added facial recognition in 2017.
