Canadian Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry Navdeep Bains introduced new federal privacy legislation Tuesday, which includes significant fining authority for noncompliant businesses. The proposed law would also give citizens enhanced data subject rights, require organizations to be transparent with the decision-making capabilities of algorithms and artificial intelligence, and provide the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada broad order-making powers.
