According to Hunton Andrews Kurth's Privacy & Information Security Law Blog, the California Legislature passed the Genetic Information Privacy Act. The law, pending Gov. Gavin Newsom's, D-Calif., signature, requires genetic-testing companies to comply with certain privacy and data security measures, which include offering consumer notice and consent requirements, along with data access and deletion rights. Those companies in violation of the law are subject to civil penalties.
