Calgary retailers launch ID entry

Four Calgary liquor stores are installing entry systems that will require customers to scan identification cards to verify age and ability to enter, CBC News reports. The systems have been found to mitigate rising cases of theft, but privacy advocates are wary of potential data breaches associated with the system and its data collection. Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta Spokesman Scott Sibbald said, "There has been no consultation with our office on this project."
