The Lower Saxony State Commissioner for Data Protection fined Volkswagen 1.1 million euros for an EU General Data Protection Regulation violation. In 2019, Austrian police stopped a Volkswagen test vehicle with cameras affixed to its exterior to record the traffic situation and error analysis. The vehicle lacked a camera symbol and necessary signage to inform other drivers it was collecting data and for what purpose, in violation of the GDPR.
