The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation signed an $18,000 licensing agreement with Clearview AI to subscribe to the company’s facial recognition technology, CyberScoop reports. Clearview AI has drawn scrutiny for its practices of harvesting millions of photos from social media users across multiple platforms without their knowledge. Beyond Clearview AI’s licensing agreement with the FBI, Cyberscoop identified more than 20 federal law enforcement contracts in excess of $7 million for either specified facial recognition technology or contracts with companies whose main product is facial recognition technology.
