Ethics profiles evaluate legal, social and ethical implications of AI, promoting fairness, transparency, accountability and human-centered values across the AI life cycle. Concrete deliverables include ethics reviews, value-alignment reports, pre-deployment evaluations of downstream risk to vulnerable groups and stakeholder engagement plans. This role closely partners with data scientists, engineers, legal counsel and executives and helps to build organizational literacy on fairness metrics and responsible AI development. The defining skill set blends ethical and philosophical reasoning with the ability to translate those concepts for nontechnical business leaders, as well as a working understanding of how AI systems function sufficient to identify risk related to models and training data. Organizations with a strong ethics team are able to determine useful trade-off throughout the governance process to better situate the organizations valuable use of AI.

Summary statement: Evaluates the legal, social and ethical implications of AI and related technologies; advises organizations on responsible AI use; and develops reports and recommendations addressing issues such as transparency, value alignment, misuse, compliance, and environmental impact.
