The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois approved a $1.1 million settlement with TikTok and its affiliated application Musical.ly in a class-action complaint alleging the platform “tracked, collected, and disclosed” personally identifiable data of children under age 13 without parental consent. Filed in 2019, the complaint alleges these actions violate the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act. The settlement will be distributed among class members — U.S. users who registered for TikTok or Musical.ly while under the age of 13.
